John draws from his extensive experience to provide counsel in financing transactions, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. He is committed to protecting clients' interests and ensuring the successful execution of transactions.
John is a member of the firm’s Financial Services, Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Indigenous Practice and Sports & Entertainment Groups. He specializes in corporate and commercial lending, with a focus on asset-based, syndicated, secured, mezzanine and subordinated debt, both domestic and cross-border. John negotiates and structures various corporate transactions, including public and private securities offerings, corporate acquisitions, reorganizations and joint ventures. He also provides guidance on securities regulatory reporting and compliance.
John has significant experience advising on matters involving Indigenous, Aboriginal and First Nations communities, including corporate and commercial transactions, as well as major projects. He also helps clients navigate the unique regulatory and transactional considerations that arise in the Indigenous and Aboriginal contexts.
John is a sought-after speaker on corporate finance, international risk management and transactional matters.
Prior to joining Aird & Berlis, John practised law at leading domestic and international law firms. He played a key role in several multi-billion dollar debt restructurings during the 2008 global financial crisis.
