  7. Keith Brown

Keith advises clients at the intersection of Aboriginal, environmental and natural resources regulatory law.

Keith is a member of the firm’s Indigenous Practice, Energy, Environmental Law and Projects & Infrastructure Groups. He assists clients in advancing their rights, interests and jurisdiction in areas such as project environmental assessments, permitting and other regulatory processes, as well as related equity, impact benefit and government-to-government negotiations. More broadly, Keith provides advice regarding Aboriginal and Treaty rights matters and the duty to consult in a range of contexts, as well as advice regarding legislative reform to advance Indigenous interests.

Keith is also an experienced administrative law litigator. He has argued judicial reviews, interventions and appeals in this practice space before various courts across the country, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Keith also regularly appears before various regulatory bodies and tribunals.

Keith has been recognized as "one to watch" by Best Lawyers in the area of Aboriginal law/Indigenous practice.

Keith plays an active role in student outreach and mentorship, including serving on the firm’s Student Recruitment Committee and acting as a co-coach of the Environmental Law Moot team for the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia.

Prior to joining Aird & Berlis, Keith practised at a large international law firm where he specialized in Aboriginal law. Before that, Keith clerked with the Court of Appeal for British Columbia in 2017-2018 and was a legal intern at an international transportation and logistics company, working on environmental assessment and Aboriginal law matters.

Keith is a member of the Heiltsuk Nation from Bella Bella, British Columbia. As a First Nations lawyer, Keith is passionate about working with Indigenous communities, governments and organizations to reach innovative solutions that protect their rights and advance their self-determination, environmental and stewardship goals.
