As a litigator, Vedran’s character is distinguished by his ability to interact with and relate to his clients, opposing counsel and judges. His reputation has resulted in recognition by his peers in The Best Lawyers in Canada. His negotiation skills are strong, and he brings perspective to emotionally-charged situations by seeing both sides of the story. Vedran is dedicated to client satisfaction and is known for his responsiveness. Organized and diligent, he makes certain that all matters are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Vedran is Co-Leader of the firm's Construction Group and a member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, practising corporate and commercial litigation, including commercial leasing matters, construction law, labour and employment law, quasi-criminal regulatory matters, financial services litigation and residential tenancy matters.

He regularly attends the Superior Court of Justice (including the Commercial List), Divisional Court, Court of Appeal for Ontario, Small Claims Court, as well as the Landlord and Tenant Board and a number of other Tribunals.

In March 2024, Aird & Berlis successfully represented a municipality and had two claims, which were brought before an Adjudicator in accordance with the Construction Act, R.S.O., 1990, c. C.30, by a claimant (the “Claimant” or “Contractor”) dismissed.

Tenants Successful at the Ontario Court of Appeal

A group of tenants, represented by Vedran Simkic and Matthew Helfand, litigators at Aird & Berlis LLP, successfully obtained leave from, and subsequently overturned, a three-judge panel of the Ontario Divisional Court. In its decision, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that occupancy limitations in residential leases are not permitted, and that the Residential Tenancies Act contemplates only non-temporary, non-conditional, unlimited occupancy arrangements.
